Fire Dragon Withstands Terrible Freeze

NEWS FLASH 4-17-2007 - Noted northwest Arkansas gardener, Sue Mohr, reports that after 3 days of recent freezes that all her trees have lost their leaves except Fire Dragon® Shantung maple. She got down to 23-24 degrees and barely got above freezing which killed all the foliage on her oaks and Japanese maples, and other trees while she reports that Fire Dragon® Shantung was undamaged and continues growing like a weed. (I went to witness this myself, see picture on July 3, below.) Leonard Miller, creator of Lendonwood Gardens in northeast Oklahoma, reports that March was the warmest on record and that he set a new all-time record low for the month of April and there is lots of damage to his Japanese maples.  Many growers from Oklahoma to Arkansas to Tennessee to North Carolina report damage to 3 years of crops.  Return to - Metro Maples News Page
