Open Every Saturday 8am-2pm and Monday thru Friday by appointment 8am-2pm.  We accept Visa/Mastercard/Discover & Checks or Cash.

Metro Maples is in its 18th year as a quality grower of Japanese and Shantung maples.  It began as the dream of Keith Johansson, and now he has an inventory of over 15,000 trees on 6 acres.  Metro Maples currently only produces and sells maple trees and a few Ginkgo.  Their motto is "A Maple For Every Spot" because they carry over 75 varieties that come in all sizes and colors and offers those that do well in the heat, for either sunny or shady locations.

What we do
Metro Maples grows and sells Japanese Maples and Shantung maples from 1 gallon to 25 gallon.  They graft about 4,000 trees per year, grow some from seeds, and also order some from suppliers.  They now grow mostly for retail customers, but still grows some for the wholesale market. They offer over 75 varieties of Japanese maples and shade tree maples like the Shantung Maple and Paperbark maples. Plants are container grown. Open on Saturdays 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, or  Monday thru Friday by Appointment

Our business history
Family owned and operated since 1994, Metro Maples has a reputation for growing plants that will thrive and be beautiful in your yard, because they are evaluated and grown right in the DFW Metroplex. All the information in this website is written by Keith from his personal experience.  Metro Maples also is an arboretum with 100+ different trees and does research and supports conservation.

About our staff
Metro Maples is run by Keith Johansson. He is the owner, grafter, salesman, yard man, hose dragger, web updater, bookkeeper, etc. All plants are carefully grown by him. He currently has over 15,000 plants in stock. He has been seriously collecting and growing maples, azaleas, and rhododendrons in hot climates for 27 years.  He is the world's leading authority on Shantung maples and heat stroke in trees.  He is the past President of the Ozark Chapter of The American Rhododendron Society, and a member of the Azalea Society and a Life Member and current President of The Maple Society, North American Branch.   Click the Facebook to the right and be a friend.

Keith has a B. S. Business Finance degree from the University of Tulsa. He has been playing clarinet for over 47 years and until recently gave private lessons at night. His wife, Jeri Bisel, and tree-huggin friend Roy Gallegos help out on Saturdays. Keith is pleased to announce his first full-time employee, Scott 'Tree Spade' Hubble. He is a valuable new addition to Metro Maples.  Scott is an excellent golfer and after working on trees all day he then cares for hundreds of his own trees at home.  New in 2010 is Inman Novak who is a young landscaper that likes to deliver and plant our trees.  His website is :  www.dilandscape.com

What makes us unique
Metro Maples believes in the beauty of maple trees and 'There's A Maple for Every Spot.' It is the only nursery in the metroplex that only focuses on plants. Everyone at Metro Maples knows the 75+ different maples and how to grow them. We know they are a bargain because of their long-life, ease of care, and brilliant colors. Many specimens are planted in the display gardens so you can see mature maples.  Metro Maples now has their own tree called Acer truncatum 'Fire Dragon'® that is beautiful and easy to grow even in the Texas sun and soils.  Several more Shantung cultivars are in progress and we believe we are the world leaders in Shantung maples.  Come on out and see the future of trees.
